3 Most Common Costume Jewellery Repairs and Re-sizings and How to Go About It
We are strong advocates of sustainable fashion and pushing our cause even further we always encourage our clients to opt for repair work rather than purchase a new piece of jewellery. That's why we need to explain what exactly repair work means vis a vis costume jewellery and how our esteemed Orionz clientele can avail our jewellery repair services.
Before we begin, first things first! At ORIONZ, our products are handcrafted, similarly, our repair and resize bench is also operated by our extremely talented team of in-house artisans. The love and labour we give to create exquisite pieces of jewellery are the same when it comes to repairing and resizing. You can learn more about how we offer best jewellery repair services with our years’ of experience and keen eye for detail.
Ring Resizing
Ring resizing is to determine the size of your finger and make sure the ring exactly fits that size. Ideally, a ring should be a snug fit and shouldn't need excessive pulling or rubbing to come off. God forbid, if your ring gets stuck on your finger, you can use a lubricator to massage on the remaining portion of the finger and gently wiggle it out. Sometimes, rings are just oversized. In that case, send it back to us to make it a perfect fit for your finger. We recommend a nightly removal of the ring so that both your finger and your ring can rest and breathe a little.
How do we resize it?
Well, our artisans cut a slice off the bottom of the shank of the ring and expand or contract the ring according to the required size. They do that either by adding more metal to make the ring bigger or by removing excess metal to make it smaller. Then the metal is soldered and shaped and polished and perfected.
About Orionz Resize and Repair
We offer to resize free of cost along with free shipping to all our new purchases. For every subsequent resizing on the same order, it becomes chargeable. But resizing is not always possible especially with certain designs, so to clarify the same, raise a request through an email to repairs@orionzjewels.com. Kindly bear in mind, resizing is only offered for Orionz products. Jewellery from any other jeweller needs to be taken to them for resizing and repair.
Prong Repair
The prong setting is widely used jewellery setting where a gemstone or solitaire is held with a set of metal claws. A cozy basket is created where the stone sits securely. This is one of the most valued and opted-for jewellery settings in the world to showcase the beauty of the gem in the most secure way possible. But sometimes, over a long period of usage, these metal prongs wear off and become thin or break off thereby risking the stone. If that's the case, you can send your jewellery for what we call “re-tipping” the prongs.
How do we re-tip?
'Re-tipping' depends on the extent of the wear and tear. Sometimes, an addition of a little metal does the work. But if the prongs are seriously affected, the whole prong head might need a replacement. After looking at the jewellery, we assess the damage and inform our customer accordingly. Definitely, the cost will fluctuate according to the metal requirement and man-hour spent.
About Orionz Repair Process

Loose Gemstones Repair and Replacement
However much we try and protect our jewellery, over time with repeated use, it starts to show wear and tear. Especially, gemstones can come off and start rolling in their cradle or in the worst-case scenario, pop out altogether and get lost, if we are not cautious.
How can you prevent it?
Conduct a weekly jewellery check where you can lightly brush your fingers over your jewellery just to see whether you can feel some loose stones. Whenever you spot the problem, put away the jewellery piece separately in a bag to minimize friction and any further loss of stones or gems. Contact nearest jewellery repair services immediately and get them fixed.
